The Ōamaru CBD Masterplan will help to set the direction for growth in Ōamaru's Central Business District over the next 30 years.
It will recommend key opportunities to improve the CBD, including; development of new spaces and activities for our community and visitors to enjoy, and better connectivity between Thames Street, the Heritage Precinct and the Harbour area.
How did we get here?
The Masterplan brings together a number of existing plans and strategies, plus ideas from the Community Conversations we ran last year, into an overarching development plan to create more vibrant, usable and attractive public spaces.
We've held three CBD Revitalisation workshops with Councillors, local businesses and community members to explore opportunities and potential projects to develop. A number of ideas were presented, some of which could be delivered quickly, and others which will take longer to plan and fund and may be implemented with partners.
How can you get involved?
We have identified a number of 'Opportunity Areas' in the developing plan that we're now sharing with our community for feedback. We've put together some visual inspiration and a short survey to gather your thoughts on these areas, with space to leave comments and ideas. Please note: this is not a formal consultation – we're after your take on which opportunities you think would bring the most value and why.
Inner CBD living & accomodation? Pocket parks? Activating laneways? We don't expect all the ideas to appeal to everyone, but we hope you'll see the potential and get excited!
